I had stumbled upon this useful online course on Cartography last week (April 2020). It gives me an opportunity to understand the Art as well as the Science of mapping geospatial data through the hands-on experience of the powerful Geographic Information System (GIS) platform - Esri ArcGIS Pro.
Below is my output from Week 1's training exercise - the objective was to reproduce a map of the state of Massachusetts, USA with Road Features and Green Zones marked in it. I'm in awe to know the extent of work that goes into creating a professional-looking Map. While modern geospatial softwares make the overall process standardized and error-free, one can't help but admire the skill of Cartographers in olden times who did this activity meticulously through manual techniques!
There's another course series on Geographic Information System by UC Davis research university available on Coursera that I'll recommend as it is very useful for anyone interested to explore the world of Geospatial Analytics. I actually started this venture of mine - Intelloc Mapping Services (Mapmyops) upon feeling inspired from this course - about the general potential and applications of this technology as well as its linkages with Supply Chain Management - my academic specialization.
Isn't it amazing how a single Map can capture such a huge amount of Information?
